The Real World Trust (RWT) is a registered charity that operates “not for profit” in that any surpluses are re-used within the organisation and not to shareholders.
The Board of the Real World Trust (RWT) meets every three months to oversee the governance, receive reports and make recommendations regarding the strategic direction of the organisation. Board members give of their time and skill voluntarily.
RWT is always seeking to balance the skills mix of the Board and applications are welcome from anyone who thinks they may have a particular skill to offer – particularly in the legal or financial area. (Please contact the Chair or Chief Executive).

Gloria Minghella DL, JP
Gloria has been Patron of the Real World Trust since 1991. She is a well-respected local business person, a Deputy Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight and past Chair of the Magistrates.
Shirley Smart
Shirley is a past leader of IOW Council and has an extensive knowledge of housing having been instrumental in the introduction of the Housing (Homeless Persons) Act by the late MP Stephen Ross. Shirley also has extensive knowledge of the voluntary sector and Human Resource legislation.
Richard Priest MA
Chairman of the Trust from1999 until 2004, Richard is General Manager of the Riverside Centre, a large resource centre for people with differing abilities. Richard is also Chairman of Medina Housing Association, a town councillor and past Mayor of Shanklin and Chairman of Shanklin Youth and Community Centre. He also sits on several strategic planning groups as well as vice chair of the local Rural Community Council.
Timothy Day RMN
Tim is a co-founder of Real World Trust. Before becoming a psychiatric nurse 15 years ago Tim was Managing Director of Canning Day Motors. Tim has extensive experience of the Trust’s client group and has recently been involved in service development for the Isle of Wight NHS Trust.
Kate Boyes – Co-opted
Kate has an accounting and governance background and has responsibility for overseeing the financial probity of the Trust.
James Lowe
James is a consultant in social care and recently retired as head of adult services with Isle of Wight Social Services Directorate.
Gill Kennet
Gill works for the Isle of Wight Healthcare Trust and is a County Councillor in Freshwater. ++++++++++++++++++++

Brenda Lawson
Brenda is past Chairman of the Isle of Wight Citizens’ Advice Bureau and Mayor of Ventnor. She runs her own business and has extensive knowledge of the voluntary sector, especially the regional issues.

RWT employs approximately 25 staff plus a number of volunteers throughout – and occasionally shared between its different sections. The main contacts for the different sections are as follows:
Chief Executive- Paddy Noctor
Paddy Noctor is co-founder and past Chairman of the Trust and has been Chief Executive since 1992. Paddy has an eclectic background including banking and catering and for the last fifteen years has been a therapist specialising in Drug, Alcohol and Mental Illness as well as Challenging Behaviour. He is also a Board Member of Riverside Centre, vice Chair of the Mental Health Housing Forum, vice chair of the Supported Housing Forum, and sits on several strategy committees.
Chief Financial Officer — George Beardsmore
George is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries (ACIS). As a Salvation Army officer from 1976 until 1985 he was Finance, Property and Development Officer for the Pakistan Region for 4 years, Divisional Officer—Nottingham for 2 years, Covenant and Tax Regional Officer for 1 year and National Charity Shops Co-ordinator for 2 years. From 1985—1986 he was Finance Officer of the charity SCOPE and then Finance Officer, Finance Controller and Corporate Services Controller in Housing Associations in London and the Isle of Wight.
Director of Resources - John Prickett
John worked between 1983 and 2001 in Housing Associations in London and the Isle of Wight—including Hostels, supportive shared housing, re-settlement work and, from 1988 to 2001 in Housing Association Development Departments. Since 2001 he has worked for the Trust responsible for contract compliance, health and safety, property procurement and management, and human resource matters.
