Cherry Tree commemmorates 10 years at Butler Gardens - see below
Town Crier Shirley Ballard officially planted a 10th Anniversary tree at Butler Gardens at 9.30am on Friday 30th October 2009, as part of the Make A Difference celebrations and to coincide with the 10th Anniversary of the Hostel. The Hostel has provided accommodation for over 1,500 people during this time, enabling individuals to receive the appropriate support during their stay and ongoing support, including training and employment advice, when they move out of the hostel and into supported, and independent, accommodation.
Donna Lynch, Hostel Manager who has been with the project since 1999 said ‘The project has come a long way in this time and, more importantly, by providing a quality resource we have shown what a difference appropriate and timely support can make to people in need at one moment of their lives’. Recent health service reports show that 21,000 Island adults consume alcohol in excess of recognises limits, over 1,000 hospital admissions are caused by alcohol misuse, and there is an upward trend in the number of recorded deaths attributable to alcohol misuse.
Town Crier Shirley Ballard will be joined by IW Councillors, past and present staff and residents, and trustees of the Real World Trust who pioneered the facility. |
